About

A professional artist and fabricator, specializing in monumental thought provoking sculpture.

Ian Houghton

Born in Tucson, AZ I have been around art most of my life. My godfather taught me to weld when I was 12 years old and at 15 I had the great fortune of working for renowned artist, Steven Derks. Steven has been more than a mentor to me and 20 years later we still work together any chance we get.

Now, with over 2 decades of experience in large-scale metal sculpture, I have honed my ability to evoke powerful emotions through the manipulation of steel and other materials. My work blends industrial strength with artistic finesse, creating pieces that resonate with viewers on a deep, emotional level. My background enables me to balance creative vision with practical execution, allowing me to collaborate effectively with customers, project managers, engineers, and architects to create truly one of a kind works of art.

White Rhino Customs

White Rhino Customs was launched in 2012 as an umbrella for my creative endeavors. I was fabricating high-end bicycles and working with local artist to create truly head turning, functional works of art.

In 2016 my passion for the cycling industry faded and I refocused my attention to all things fabrication. This was when I created my first large-scale public art installation (The Art of Cycling 2016).

In 2024 I was laid off from my full-time job and decided to go head first into becoming a full-time artist! This meant for the first time in my life I could focus on creating what I wanted instead of making things for other people.
